Open Web Foundation Rolls Out at OSCON
Dan Recordon completed a presentation on the Open Web Foundation just now at OSCON, the annual open source convention hosted here in Portland. What’s exciting is that, despite the fact that I couldn’t attend the presentation, the deck is already online.
It’s pretty self explanatory, and kudos to Mr. Recordon for simplifying the message, even in an audience of largely tech savvy individuals. The core of the initiative is to acknowledge that the data framework for shared apps, widgets, and web 2.0 generally is largely in flux. There is no easy way to support consistent standards. So an astonishing group of people have come together to generate functional and open specs for data sharing.
They all know a heck of a lot more about it than us, so go read them. And if you ever have a chance to attend OSCON, you should. Last year I even picked up a “Hell Freezes Over” shirt from the Microsoft Open Source Lab guys…
